Learn about peace from people of the same age around the world. Talk about peace together.
In addition to inquiry-based peace education, there are also initiatives to learn about peace and war from young people of the same age around the world. By learning with young people of the same age, it is expected that students will begin to think about peace as something that concerns them personally.
Shoin Junior and Senior High School conducted a peace education program in which students connected online with students from Syria, where a civil war will continue until 2024, to discuss war and peace.
In this program, students learned about the real situation in Syria, focusing on both the past and present. They visited local kindergartens and universities, and spoke with young people their age who lived in the country and experienced the war about Syria's current situation, history, culture, and more.
The participants also deepened their understanding of Syria's history and current situation through a panel discussion on the current situation and challenges in Syria led by Mr. Nakano, the representative of the NPO "Piece of Syria," which provides educational support to Syrian children and engages in peace-raising activities in Japan, and by watching a video titled "Syria Then and Now."

Now, as we mark 80 years since the end of the war, With The World will explore and propose new ways of teaching peace that will leave a lasting impression on students and foster skills that will carry them into the future.
